There is unrest on Christmas Island after an asylum seeker in the Australia government-run detention centre died after escaping on Saturday.
A man's body was found at the bottom of a cliff by Australian Federal Police (AFP) on Sunday after a 24-hour search for his body. The Refugee Action Coalition reported the man was a Iranian-Kurdish refugee in his 30s
Neither the Department of Immigration nor the AFP have released details of the identity of the man or the cause of death
"On Saturday morning, the Department was advised of the escape of an illegal maritime arrival from Christmas Island Immigration Detention Centre by service provider staff," the department said in a statement. "The matter was referred to the Australian Federal Police who commenced a search and discovered a deceased person." Read more...
